Caring for body-safe silicone toys
How to clean, dry, store and charge your toys so they stay hygienic and last for years.
By The Luminova Team · 6 July 2026
Good-quality silicone toys can last for years with a little care. The routine is simple and takes about two minutes.
Clean before and after every use
- Check the waterproof rating. IPX7 toys can go under the tap; splash-proof toys should be wiped rather than rinsed.
- Wash with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap or a dedicated toy cleaner.
- Pay attention to seams, buttons and textured areas.
- Rinse well and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
Never boil a toy with a motor inside. Motor-free silicone, glass and stainless-steel toys can usually be boiled for a few minutes — check the instructions first.
Let it dry completely
Air-dry on a clean towel before putting it away. Trapped moisture is the main cause of musty smells.
Store it separately
Keep each toy in its own pouch or a clean drawer section. Different silicones can react with each other if they touch for long periods, leaving marks on the surface.
Charging habits that extend battery life
- Charge fully before first use.
- Top up every couple of months even if you haven't used it — lithium batteries don't like sitting flat.
- Make sure charging contacts are dry before connecting.
Lube and silicone
Pair silicone toys with water-based or toy-safe hybrid lube. Silicone lube can make some silicone surfaces tacky over time.
When to replace a toy
If the surface becomes sticky, cracked or discoloured, or the toy won't hold a charge, it's time to retire it. Most of our toys come with a 1-year warranty, so get in touch if something fails early.
